Space: The Next Frontier. Cybersecurity: Making It Safe For All.

This week I was lucky enough to join executives from a variety backgrounds to be the first ever cohort of the International Space University and University of Strathclyde's inaugural "Space Cybersecurity Executive Course" in Glasgow. We are the first people EVER to have a credential in hashtag#Space hashtag#Cybersecurity.

📡 We learned about the entire space ecosystem covering the satellite, space, ground and user segments.

🌌 We heard from experts on international space law and policy and the challenges facing all nations, agencies, regulators and commercial operations.

❗ We talked about the "Hacker's Playground" covering hacking, jamming, COTs and other factors threatening the global space infrastructure - and of course how we actively detect and handle cyber threats.

✅ We got to tour the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland, and the incredible innovation they do, partnered with academia and industry to drive new ways of creating advanced (and more sustainable) engineering solutions of the future.

🛰 We even got to build a cube satellite, and learned how they can be hacked.

Dr Sharon Lèmac-Vincere & Nicolas PETER have designed this wonderful course to be immersive and far reaching. We ran a simulation of the upcoming UK Space Agency's hashtag#spacemission and as a multi-disciplinary team had to respond to and manage a number of real-life scenarios that can go wrong (and right) in space - and on Earth, through the lens of hashtag#space and hashtag#cybersecurity.

Some of my key learnings and takeaways:

➡ Space affects us all: disruptions to space infrastructure (in orbit and on Earth) impacts more markets and sectors than most people realize.

➡ Although we have the Space Industries Act (among others), there is a lot of international law, agency, and regulatory work to be done.

➡ With the proliferation of objects in space, we have a collective responsibility to ensure that we make space a safer, fairer, and innovative place for all mankind.

This was one of the coolest executive education courses I have ever done. More people need to understand the opportunity and impact of Space and Space Cybersecurity.
