Global ecosystem perspectives from NYC. šŸ—½Ā

We had a fun evening withĀ 42GeeksĀ in New York last night, hosted byĀ Itai DamtiĀ ofĀ Unit, andĀ Chok Ooi. Great turnout to hearĀ Sian Nee HoĀ andĀ Jason D. GreenblattĀ discuss Singapore and the Middle East respectively. I then had the opportunity to talk about the business opportunities in Scotland šŸ“󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁓ó æ .

As a proud Scot, it is always fun to talk about Scotland's history of innovation (even with a nod and a wink to the book "How The Scot's Invented the Modern World". Which we did. Kind of. Mostly. šŸ˜† ). But it is even more fun to talk about the growing sectors in Scotland today. Some fun facts:

šŸ‘ Life Sciences: Scotland has the largest cluster of animal bioscience/aquaculture researchers in Europe (remember "Dolly the Sheep"?), and is #1 in Europe for research impact in biomedical and health sciences.

šŸ›° SpaceTech: Scotland is the 2nd largest commercial "cube" satellite producer in the world, with a space industry that has supported missions to Mars and deep exploration with James Webb Space Telescope, and is Europe's top small satellite launch market with FIVE launch locations.

🌦 ClimateTech: from being Europe's oil & gas leader to an innovator in onshore & offshore wind, and many CleanTech innovations, Scotland's renewable energy produces 113% of its national electricity demand.

šŸ’° In Scotland, we have some great venture funds, angel syndicates, sector-based accelerators, incubators, and a lot of support from theĀ The Scottish GovernmentĀ and its development agency,Ā Scottish Enterprise.Ā

šŸ“š And our 4 ancient universities, 3 of which are ranked in the global 100, and our other 15 universities(!), produce amazing talent and world-class research. As a nation, we are also committed to support moreĀ hashtag#entrepreneurship,Ā hashtag#commercialization, andĀ hashtag#femalefounders.

šŸ‘‰ But we also need more "smart capital" in the ecosystem, continued help with making global connections, and understanding new markets, to realize Scotland's huge potential.

Next week is NYC Tartan Week, which will be a great opportunity to meet Scottish šŸ“󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁓ó æ companies looking to enter the US šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø market, and to connect with investors seeking amazing deal flow and opportunities in Scotland.

Please DM me if you are around and want to chat more about investing in Scotland. Cheers!
